OBITUARY

CORBETT

Joan passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 20, 2024. Born to Herbert and Frances Wahl (nee Moon) on April 9, 1931. Joan's life was a profound expression of devotion--to her faith, her family, and her profession.

A devout Catholic throughout her life, Joan's faith was a cornerstone of her existence. It guided her actions and brought comfort and joy not only to her but also to those around her. Joan is an alumna of Our Lady of Peace Grade School, Beaumont High School and St. John's College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Her career in nursing was a reflection of her compassion, care, and commitment to helping others. Joan's career started at Charity Hospital in Cleveland and ended at Hillcrest Hospital in the late 1980's.
Her marriage to Thomas A. Corbett spanned 65 years until his passing on January 21, 2020. Together, they embraced a joyful 30-year retirement in Las Vegas. Joan and Tom enjoyed their times in the casinos, often laughing about trying to return home before sunrise and the newspaper delivery.
Joan's heart belonged to her family. She was a devoted wife to Thomas A. Corbett for 65 years. She was a loving mother to her daughters, Mary Joan (deceased), Kathleen Skerkoski (Dave) and Susan Corbett. Joan cherished her role as a grandmother to Amy, Ann, and Laura and was overjoyed to become a great-grandmother to Kelsey just 3 months ago.

She is survived by her brother, William Wahl and his wife Margaret, and preceded in death by her sisters Mary Frances Rooke, Patricia Stenger, and Norma Stenger. Joan was a devoted aunt and cousin to many. Joan enjoyed a close relationship with Adj and Gene Skerkoski, Dave's parents. Joan and Tom enjoyed many good times with Frank and Georgianne Borally.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Tammy Grace Rehner for her invaluable companionship and caregiving over the last 4 years here in Cleveland and Laurel Davis for her dedication and friendship in Las Vegas. Also, a special recognition for the staff at Governors Village for their support and care in Joan's final years.
