Mrs. Doubtfire Musical Brings the Beloved Story to Akron for Two Nights Only

AKRON, OHIO — The nationally touring musical “Mrs. Doubtfire,” based on the film of the same name, is scheduled to bring its run to Akron next week with two evening performances at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall. The show is set for Tuesday, Jan. 20, and Wednesday, Jan. 21, with both performances beginning at 7:30 p.m., according to event information released by Playhouse Square.

The production adapts the story of a Scottish nanny and the family at the center of the well-known movie. Promotional materials describe the stage version as the story of an out-of-work actor who will do anything for his kids. Marketing for the tour highlights critical notices from several outlets, including the Manchester Evening News, which called the musical “wonderful, heart-warming, and laugh-out-loud funny.”

The Hollywood Reporter described it as “a feel-good, family-friendly comedy that delivers.” A Chicago Tribune blurb included in the release calls it “the lovable, big-hearted musical comedy we need right now,” adding that it “proves we’re better together.”

The show is being presented through Playhouse Square. Additional details and ticket information are available through Playhouse Square’s event listing at https://www.playhousesquare.org/events/detail/mrs-doubtfire-1.

The family-friendly performances are expected to draw area theatergoers as the touring production continues its schedule in Northeast Ohio.

Jayda’s Adventures, plans to attend the Tuesday performance and share impressions afterward, according to a notice included with the event information.
