This Cleveland Adventure Lets You Fly Over Lake Erie and It’s Unreal

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Clevelanders looking for a new way to experience their city can now take to the skies. Great Lakes Watersports, located downtown on the West Bank of the Flats, offers parasailing flights that lift riders 400 feet above Lake Erie for a breathtaking aerial view of the skyline and waterfront.

I had the chance to try it myself, and from the moment we pulled away from the dock, it was clear this wasn’t just a boat ride. After a short trip onto the lake, the crew helped me gear up, clipped me into the harness, and before I knew it, I was floating high above the city. The ride lasted about ten minutes, but the full experience, including the boat ride to and from the launch point, stretched closer to forty.

“The views were incredible and seeing the skyline from a different view was breathtaking,” I said afterward, and I meant every word. From that height, you can see the shoreline stretch in every direction, with downtown Cleveland in perfect view.

Great Lakes Watersports has been operating since 2000 and is currently under the ownership of Joshua Allen, who took over in 2021. The company offers single, tandem, or triple parasailing flights and is staffed by a certified crew that makes safety and comfort a top priority. Flights start at $80 per person and are open to participants between the ages of five and eighty, with a combined flight weight requirement between 125 and 450 pounds.

Passengers lift off and land directly from the boat deck, staying dry the entire time unless they request a dip. There’s no experience necessary, and the process is smooth and simple from start to finish.

While parasailing is the main attraction, Great Lakes Watersports also offers boat and kayak rentals, making it a go-to destination for locals and tourists looking to enjoy Cleveland’s waterfront.

For anyone looking to try something new or see the city from a different angle, parasailing over Lake Erie is a unique and unforgettable experience.
