6-Year-Old Reporter, Karmi Brown, Is Bringing Fresh Energy to Cleveland News

Published: Apr 17, 2026 - 8:31 p.m.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland 13 News has welcomed 6-year-old Karmella "Karmi" Brown as its newest affiliate, giving one of Northeast Ohio's youngest rising personalities a platform built around family fun, community events and local adventures. The move is believed to make Brown the youngest accredited news reporter in the world, a milestone that also shines a light on youth representation in media. Karmi has already become a familiar face to many families across the region. With natural confidence on camera and an outgoing personality, she has built a name for herself by sharing experiences designed for children and parents looking for new things to do around Northeast Ohio. Her interest in media started early, inspired by her mother, Nikkie Brown, host of Cleveland 13's "Hit the Town" series. Watching her mother highlight businesses, attractions and community stories helped spark Karmi's own love for connecting with people and exploring what the region has to offer. Now, she is stepping into a role of her own. At Cleveland 13 News, Karmi will focus on family-friendly activities, kid-centered events and destinations throughout Northern Ohio. What makes her coverage different is the perspective she brings. Rather than viewing places through an adult lens, audiences will see experiences through the honest, playful eyes of a 6-year-old. That kind of authenticity could resonate with both children and parents looking for real reactions and ideas for their next outing. Brown is no stranger to the spotlight. She is a competitive Irish dancer with the Academy of Irish Dance, an experience that has helped shape her stage presence and comfort in front of crowds and cameras. She also serves as an ambassador for Northeast Ohio Parent Magazine. Her resume continues to grow. Most recently, Brown attended this year's Fan Expo, where she interviewed cast members from "Reno 911!" and met actors from the "Ghostbusters" franchise. She has also visited attractions such as the Greater Cleveland Aquarium, bringing families along with her trademark enthusiasm. Outside of media, Brown is also involved in her monthly coloring contest initiative, which encourages creativity among children while partnering with local businesses that provide prizes and support. The effort has helped create connections between families and the community while celebrating young talent. Her addition to Cleveland 13 News reflects a changing media landscape where fresh voices and authentic personalities matter more than ever. In Brown's case, that voice just happens to come from someone still in elementary school. For Northeast Ohio families searching for their next weekend adventure, Karmi may soon become one of the area's most trusted young guides. -------------------- At Cleveland 13 News, we strive to provide accurate, up-to-date, and reliable reporting.
