STRONGSVILLE, Ohio — A Saturday afternoon shooting outside the Costco Wholesale store on Royalton Road left one person dead and led to a suspect being taken into custody, according to the Strongsville Police Department. The incident, which occurred during peak shopping hours at 16690 Royalton Road, triggered a large police response and caused widespread confusion among shoppers and employees. Authorities quickly secured the scene after gunfire was reported near the store's entrance. Investigators have not yet released the identities of the victim or the suspect, and a motive for the shooting has not been announced. Inside the store, the situation escalated rapidly. Witness Lori Aldrich, who was working at a sample demonstration station near the checkout registers, described a chaotic scene. "All of a sudden, everyone started running and yelling, 'Run to the back of the store and outside,'" Aldrich recalled. She said customers and employees fled through rear exits, initially fearing the shooter was in their midst. "Then we heard there was a shooter outside the store," she explained, noting the brief moment of fear when they realized they had evacuated to the same area where the danger was located. "Thankfully, the shooting was out front, and we were out back." Emergency vehicles converged on the front of the building as police worked to contain the area. According to Aldrich, checkout lanes were temporarily reopened to allow customers who were already inside to exit quickly. Police are expected to review surveillance footage and continue witness interviews to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The incident has stunned the suburban community, known for its busy retail corridor and family-oriented neighborhoods. Further information, including potential charges, is expected to be released as the investigation progresses. -------------------- At Cleveland 13 News, we strive to provide accurate, up-to-date, and reliable reporting.
