CLEVELAND, OHIO — A group of local entrepreneurs is launching a new initiative this week to pull singles away from their smartphone screens and into the room at one of the city's most recognizable venues. On Friday, Feb. 6, at 8:00 p.m., Great Lakes Brewing Company will host the debut of Date Unscripted. The live show, created by Alexis Fender, Gabrielle Fender, and Tabitha Miner, functions as an interactive, comedy-style experience where pre-selected participants engage in challenges on stage. A curtain separates the contestants as they navigate games designed to foster chemistry without the clinical feel of a digital algorithm. Founding member Tabitha Miner says the show is designed as entertainment first, meaning it isn't just for those looking for a partner. While winning couples receive a date sponsored by a local restaurant, the founders built the event to be an unpredictable night out for the entire crowd. Miner noted that anyone who’s used a dating app understands the frustration of trying to find a genuine connection in a digital space. The shift toward in-person events comes as health experts highlight the physical risks of social isolation. Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates that roughly one in three people report feeling lonely.
