Civil War Weekend Brings Battle of Sailor’s Creek to Hale Farm and Village

BATH, Ohio – Hale Farm and Village will host its annual Civil War Weekend on August 9 and 10, inviting visitors to experience life during the 1860s through living history presentations, battle reenactments, and interactive activities. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at 2686 Oak Hill Road in Bath, with free parking available for all guests.

The immersive event, which draws reenactors from across the country, will highlight both military and civilian life during the Civil War era. Highlights include a full-scale reenactment of the Battle of Sailor’s Creek, cavalry demonstrations, appearances by President Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln, and live period music from Camp Chase Fifes and Drums. “This event brings history to life in a way that people can see, hear, and feel,” said a spokesperson for the Western Reserve Historical Society, which manages Hale Farm and Village.

Younger visitors will have an opportunity to enlist in the Junior Militia, while a pop-up exhibit titled Connivers in Corsets will explore the roles of female spies during the war. Authentic Federal and Confederate camps will be open for tours, giving visitors an inside look at daily life on and off the battlefield.

General admission for the event is $15 for adults ages 13 and up, $8 for children ages 3 to 12, and free for children under 2, WRHS members, and active military. Tickets are available online at 330tix.com or at the gate. Reenactor registration is $15 per adult through August 1, with on-site registration available for $20 beginning August 8. Youth under 12 may participate for free if accompanied by a registered adult.

The weekend event is designed for all ages and is considered family-friendly. Safety regulations are in place, including prohibiting anyone under 18 from carrying firearms. The event will proceed rain or shine. While the museum has historically offered concessions during large gatherings, visitors are welcome to bring their own food for designated picnic areas.

The focus on the Battle of Sailor’s Creek pays homage to one of the final major clashes of the Civil War, fought in April 1865. Its dramatic cavalry engagements and pivotal role in the closing days of the war make it a popular choice for reenactments.
