Cozumel in Broadview Heights Throws a Flavor-Filled Fiesta for Cinco de Mayo and 25-Year Milestone

BROADVIEW HEIGHTS, OHIO — I hit the town today at Cozumel’s original Broadview Heights location, where the energy was high, the margaritas were flowing, and the plates just kept coming. Cinco de Mayo isn’t just a holiday here, it’s a full-blown celebration; and this year it also marks Cozumel’s 25th anniversary since opening their very first restaurant right here in Northeast Ohio.

I had the pleasure of meeting with Cesar Vargas, one of the restaurant’s longtime managers, who showed me exactly how they craft their famous margaritas. Not only did I get to watch the process, but I even jumped behind the bar and gave it a shot myself. Spoiler alert, it’s all about the shake.

After a sip (okay, maybe two), the kitchen sent out an incredible spread. We’re talking chimichangas, enchiladas, their signature Cozumel fajitas loaded with meat and shrimp, classic sides like rice and beans, warm tortillas, chips, salsa, and more. It wasn’t just delicious, it was a true showcase of the flavors and hospitality Cozumel has become known for across the region.

If you didn’t know, Cozumel is a family-owned chain with nine locations in Northeast Ohio, including spots in Brunswick, Cleveland Heights, Independence, Lakewood, Parma, Richfield, West 150th, and Westlake; but it all started in Broadview Heights back in 1999. Since then, they’ve built a loyal following by keeping things authentic, welcoming, and above all...delicious.

They’re famous for their jumbo margaritas, extensive tequila selection, and that tableside guacamole everyone loves. It’s the kind of place that feels festive the moment you walk in, with colorful décor, Latin music, and a family-friendly vibe that makes it perfect for any occasion; especially one like today.

“We’re proud to be part of the community and to have grown thanks to our loyal customers,” Vargas told me, adding that Cinco de Mayo is one of their busiest days of the year.

After tasting my way through what felt like half the menu, I can confirm that Cozumel has earned its reputation as one of the best authentic Mexican restaurants in the area. So, as I said at the end of my segment "I'm telling you right now, run, don’t walk, to get to your nearest Cozumel."
