Armed Carjacking Ends with Arrest in Garfield Heights After Corvette Theft

GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — The Garfield Heights Police Department released body camera footage today showing the aftermath of an armed carjacking involving a stolen Corvette on July 25th. According to the department’s statement, the suspects were found with two rifles in the vehicle. The driver was taken into custody at the scene.

“These were armed car-jackers in the Corvette they took at gunpoint. Two rifles in the back seat. Driver in custody,” the department posted alongside the video. “The job we have to do isn’t always pretty. It isn’t glamorous. It isn’t fun. It’s dangerous and it takes a toll on the men and women who do it. Talking with kids, talking with residents, helping people when they need it, that’s great. But the work in many of these videos, it sucks. But there’s a line that needs to be held and we agreed to do it. And we’ll continue to do it because the good citizens of our community like this deserve to be safe. Thanks for the fist bump sir, we got you.”

The incident occurred near East 131st Street and Harvard Avenue in Cleveland, according to community comments. Residents have praised officers for their quick response and efforts to keep the area safe.

“Great job GHPD! Glad nobody was seriously injured. Thanks for your hard work of trying to keep streets safe,” one resident wrote. Another added, “Good job GHPD, we are sick of these runners too.” Others shared similar sentiments, thanking the department for its commitment to community safety and encouraging them to continue sharing these types of updates.

Some commenters expressed concern for officers’ well-being, with one writing, “Please be safe out there,” while another said, “There will never be enough anyone can do to thank you all for what you do every single day, every single shift, every single LE officer, dispatcher and staff member. You are appreciated.”

The department emphasized the challenges officers face while working to protect the public. One community member responded by urging the police to keep posting videos, stating, “The good work needs to be shown. It isn't about kids being kids. It's about keeping people safe and removing the dangers that are out there.”
