CLEVELAND — A fire broke out around 1 a.m. Sunday at 4017 St. Clair Avenue, severely damaging Annie B. & Earl’s Pancake House, a beloved breakfast spot on Cleveland’s east side. According to the Cleveland Fire Department, the blaze engulfed the 2.5-story building that housed both the restaurant and a residential unit above it.
Flames were seen coming from the attic, and firefighters quickly brought the situation under control. The estimated damage is $500,000. No injuries were reported, though the American Red Cross was called to assist one adult male.
“We are asking for prayers at this time for the Annie B Family,” the restaurant said in a statement on Instagram. “We experienced a devastating loss last night. We are grateful only material things were lost but we are grieving for a place we built with love. Please keep us in your thoughts & prayers.”
The restaurant also shared that a fundraiser has been launched to support affected tenants and displaced staff. The fire destroyed the upstairs apartment unit, leaving tenants without housing and employees without income.
As of now, the cause of the fire remains unknown. Officials have not released further details on the investigation.
