Free MLK Day Admission Opens Doors Across Northeast Ohio

CLEVELAND, OHIO — Families across Northeast Ohio looking to mark Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, will have multiple free and discounted options, with museums, cultural institutions and attractions offering complimentary admission and special programming throughout the day. In Cleveland, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame plans to offer free admission from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to Rockhall.com. Advanced tickets are required through the museum’s website, and the organization is urging visitors to reserve quickly while availability remains. The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is also scheduled to open its doors for free from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to a listing on cmnh.org. Several downtown and University Circle destinations are advertising free general admission and additional activities. The Great Lakes Science Center will offer free general admission from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with $5 DOME movies and special programming, including Big Science Shows, according to a post shared on the organization’s Facebook page. The Cleveland Botanical Garden will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is advertising a take-home craft activity at a “tree cookie” table from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to an event posting on holdenfg.org. The Western Reserve Historical Society’s Cleveland History Center will offer free admission from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All exhibits are expected to be open, and rides on the Euclid Beach Park Grand Carousel will cost $3, according to the society’s website. The Cleveland Museum of Art is listing a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to clevelandart.org. Music-related programming is also planned. The Cleveland Orchestra is promoting an “MLK Community Open House & Day of Music” from noon to 4 p.m., with free admission, free hot chocolate and cookies, interactive activities and free family portraits in the Grand Foyer by photographer Scott Esterly, according to clevelandorchestra.com. Outside Cleveland, several Akron institutions are also offering free or reduced-cost opportunities. The Akron Zoo is listing Martin Luther King Jr. Day hours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to akronzoo.org. The Akron Art Museum is scheduled to be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with reservations recommended, according to an event page on akronartmuseum.org. In Beachwood, the Maltz Museum is advertising a “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Community Celebration” from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to maltzmuseum.org. Cleveland Metroparks’ Watershed Stewardship Center is listing programming from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Animal meet-and-greets are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Naturalist-led scavenger hunts are scheduled for noon to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., according to the parks’ online listing.
