COSM Cleveland, The Largest Immersive Dome in the Nation, Officially Breaks Ground Downtown

Published: Apr 16, 2026 - 5:30 p.m.

CLEVELAND, OHIO — For decades, the sprawling patch of asphalt at the corner of East 4th Street and Huron Road has been little more than a "parking crater" in the heart of the city's Gateway District. Today, that void is being filled by a vision of the 21st century that promises to transform how people experience sports, art and community. Cosm Cleveland has officially broken ground, anchoring Bedrock's three-acre "Rock Block" development with a promise of "Shared Reality"; a communal, headset-free immersive experience that brings the world's biggest events to Northeast Ohio in stunning 12K resolution. "I think it's going to elevate us even more," said Clevelander Gabriella Kreuz during the groundbreaking festivities. "I'm excited." At the heart of the 64,000-square-foot facility is a nearly 100-foot-diameter LED dome, the largest ever designed for a Cosm venue. Unlike traditional virtual reality that isolates users in headsets, Cosm's technology focuses on the collective energy of the crowd. Jeb Terry Jr., CEO and president of COSM, said the venue is the culmination of a massive, vertically integrated technological ecosystem. "We're not just a venue. We have the technology, the media, the expertise that goes into that," Terry said. "So everything you see when you come into our venue, that's what COSM is. It's the rendering engine, it's building the domes and displays. We have an office in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, where we actually manufacture the structures around that. It's the production tech; so we do all the production ourselves. It's the cloud-based backbone where we stream our video from around the world. It's the ticketing application. So everything that we've done from a business approach is to invest in that fan experience." The arrival of Cosm marks a turning point for Cleveland's urban core, moving the city into an elite tier of high-tech entertainment hubs. Gregory Soltis, senior designer with RDL Architects, believes the project signals a new era for the region. "It's groundbreaking," Soltis noted. "I think it kind of puts us up there with first-tier cities offering entertainment that is 21st century entertainment." For local residents who have watched the neighborhood evolve, the project is a long-awaited breath of fresh air. Rebecca Maxwell, who has lived downtown for a decade, sees it as a vital piece of the city's revitalization. "I'm super excited. As a downtown resident of 10 years, to have new life breathed into the city, I'm really excited," Maxwell said. While the primary draw for many will be the courtside views of NBA games or cageside seats for UFC title fights, the three-story venue is designed for versatility. Guests can navigate between "The Dome" for total immersion, "The Hall" for social viewing on massive wall-to-wall LED displays, and "The Deck," a rooftop terrace offering panoramic views of the Cleveland skyline. Local entrepreneur Tabitha Miner said this variety is what makes the city a perfect fit for the project. "I think Cleveland is so special because there's so much to do, so I think this just adds to it and that's awesome." The venue's programming will extend beyond sports to include experiential cinema, allowing fans to step inside films like "The Matrix," and immersive art productions from world-renowned creators. The scale of Cosm Cleveland is matched only by its projected impact. The facility is expected to draw approximately 750,000 visitors annually; a figure comparable to the attendance of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Furthermore, the venue will create 300 full-time jobs, fueling the city's growing experience-driven economy. "This groundbreaking, innovative technology represents the future of live sports and attractions," said Nic Barlage, CEO of Rock Entertainment Group. "Rock Block, next to Rocket Arena, will be the go-to destination for visitors from the region and beyond." Construction is currently underway, with a target opening date of July 2027. As the cranes rise over Huron Road, it is clear that Cleveland is not just watching the future of entertainment; it is building it. -------------------- At Cleveland 13 News, we strive to provide accurate, up-to-date, and reliable reporting.
