CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at a landmark moment in pop culture history as part of its promotion for the upcoming 2025 induction ceremony. In a recent Facebook post, the Hall unveiled never-before-seen photos from Annie Leibovitz’s 1983 photoshoot with Cyndi Lauper, taken on Henderson Walk in Coney Island. The shoot was for the cover of Lauper’s debut album She’s So Unusual, which went on to become one of the most iconic album covers of all time.
the Rock Hall’s post highlighted the images' value in documenting Lauper’s rise to stardom and the early formation of her vibrant public persona.
Lauper, now recognized as a trailblazer in music and fashion, is set to be officially inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on November 8, 2025. The ceremony will be held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and streamed live on Disney+ starting at 8 p.m. EST. A primetime special will later air on ABC, with additional viewing available on Hulu the next day.
The 2025 class features an eclectic group of inductees including Outkast, Soundgarden, The White Stripes, Bad Company, Chubby Checker, and Joe Cocker. The ceremony is expected to include appearances by notable artists such as Elton John, Olivia Rodrigo, Missy Elliott, Questlove, and Doja Cat, reflecting the wide-ranging influence of this year’s honorees.

The release of these previously unseen photos reinforces the Hall’s role as both a curator and storyteller of music history.
