CLEVELAND, OH — Strides Pharma Inc. is pulling nearly 90,000 bottles of children's ibuprofen from shelves across the country. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the recall involves 89,592 bottles of Children's Ibuprofen Oral Suspension. The action was prompted by reports from consumers who discovered a gel-like mass and small black particles inside the medication. The product was manufactured by Strides Pharma, a company headquartered in India, for Taro Pharmaceuticals USA Inc. Taro is based in Hawthorne, New York, and handles distribution for these specific 4-fluid-ounce bottles. While the medication was distributed nationwide, it is unclear exactly how many units reached Northeast Ohio pharmacies or grocery stores. The FDA recently upgraded the status of this recall to a Class II designation. This classification means that while the risk of serious or life-threatening harm is considered remote, using the affected medicine could lead to temporary health problems or issues that are medically reversible. It is a standard safety measure used when a product does not meet quality standards but is not likely to cause a fatality. Parents and caregivers should check their medicine cabinets for 100-milligram per 5-milliliter oral suspension bottles. The recall specifically targets lot numbers 7261973A and 7261974A. These bottles carry an expiration date of Jan. 31, 2027. The official recall number cited by federal records is D-0390-2026. It is important to stop using these specific lots immediately. While federal officials have not received reports of serious illness or injuries tied to this recall, the presence of foreign material is a significant quality concern for pediatric medicine. If a child has already consumed medication from one of the affected lots, parents should contact a health care provider to discuss any potential symptoms. Consumers who have questions regarding the recall or who need to report a problem can contact Taro Pharmaceuticals USA at 800-544-1449. -------------------- At Cleveland 13 News, we strive to provide accurate, up-to-date, and reliable reporting.
