Sheetz Announces Death of Former CEO and Chairman Steve Sheetz at 77

ALTOONA, Pa. — Sheetz said former President, CEO and Board Chairman Stephen G. “Steve” Sheetz died the night of Jan. 4, 2026, at age 77, marking the loss of a longtime leader credited by the company with helping transform the family-run business into a multi-state convenience store chain. The announcement was made in a Sheetz-issued press release shared by public relations representative Harry Hammel. The company did not provide additional details about the cause or location of death in the release. Sheetz said Steve Sheetz spent decades with the company and played a central role in its expansion and modernization. The company credited him with helping launch Made-to-Order food, entering fuel sales and guiding growth beyond Pennsylvania into multiple states. In the release, current Sheetz President and CEO Travis Sheetz said, “Our family, and everyone at Sheetz, is heartbroken.” The release also included remarks from Board Chairman Joe Sheetz, who said, “Steve’s impact on Sheetz, our employees and our communities will be felt for generations.” The company also highlighted philanthropic work tied to Penn State Altoona, saying Steve Sheetz and his wife, Nancy, supported the campus. Sheetz listed several surviving family members in the release, including Travis Sheetz, Joe Sheetz and Nancy Sheetz. The release also named Megan Sheetz, Trevor Price, Nicole Sheetz Frith and Brint Frith.
