FRANKENMUTH, MICH. — Michigan's largest indoor waterpark, Bavarian Blast, officially opened at the Bavarian Inn Lodge in Frankenmuth on March 21, 2025, following a multi-million-dollar renovation that transformed the property into a premier family destination. Spanning 170,000 square feet, the massive indoor complex includes 16 new waterslides, a wave pool, a "not-so-lazy" river, and the state’s first adult-only swim-up bar.
“We are now Michigan’s biggest indoor waterpark for the entire state. We’re really excited for everyone to enjoy it,” said Martha Zehnder, vice president of the Bavarian Inn Lodge.
Cleveland 13's Jayda visited the new attraction and highlighted the inclusive nature of the design. “There’s the perfect slide for everyone in your family no matter how big or little they are,” she said. Her favorite was the family slide that allows all ages to ride together. She also noted the thrill of the two racer slides, where guests can choose between mat or tube races.
Beyond the slides, guests can enjoy a large wave pool, a basketball hoop pool, and interactive features like lily pads for jumping. For relaxation, there's an indoor-outdoor hot tub and a central seating area within the lazy river where parents can sit and watch their children without floating the loop.

In addition to the waterpark, overnight guests gain access to exclusive water amenities including three swimming pools, one designated for adults only. One family pool features waterfalls and splash fountains, while another includes two large waterslides and a zero-entry splash pad for young children. Jayda appreciated the flexibility this offers. “I loved this feature because the hours are different from the waterpark, giving you more water time but also if you needed a break from the large waterpark area this allows for that.”
The expansion also introduced dry attractions such as a rope course, duckpin bowling, laser tag, a three-story climbing structure, and an arcade. On-site dining options and private cabanas are also available.
Located in the heart of Frankenmuth, a town celebrated for its Bavarian charm and deep-rooted history, the waterpark is surrounded by attractions including Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland, Golden Ticket Trolley Tours, and Sugarhigh Bakery. Jayda called Frankenmuth “an amazing town that has more to offer with a unique German feel plus so much history,” adding that the destination is ideal for family vacations.
Day passes to Bavarian Blast are $80, with discounts available for seniors and military personnel. Waterpark hours run from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and noon to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Passes are included for overnight lodge guests.
