PARMA, Ohio — A Hillside Middle School student was struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning while crossing Pleasant Valley Road in front of Normandy High School, according to Normandy Principal Rachel Urban.
“A Hillside Middle School student was traveling east on Pleasant Valley Road on a scooter, wearing a helmet, and using the crosswalk when a vehicle turning into the school parking lot made contact with the student at a low rate of speed,” Urban stated. “A nearby witness called emergency services and the student’s parent accompanied him to the hospital for evaluation.”
The student was able to walk to the ambulance and communicate with staff following the incident, according to the statement sent to parents. School officials expressed gratitude for the actions of those who responded at the scene.
“We are relieved to share that the student was able to clearly communicate with us what happened and was also able to walk to the ambulance for further care,” she said. “We are grateful for the quick response of bystanders and first responders.”
The principal encouraged continued vigilance during drop-off and pickup hours around campus. “As always, we encourage everyone to use caution during high-traffic times around our schools,” she added. “Thank you for your continued support in keeping our students safe.”
